Woodland opportunity - landscape ranking

Which areas of Cornwall might deliver the greatest ‘strategic benefit’ from woodland creation?

The Woodland Opportunity landscape ranking map assigns a relative value to the whole of the Cornish landscape on the basis of suitability for woodland creation and the potential biodiversity and other environmental benefits that would result.

To view only the most highly ranked areas for woodland creation please see the Woodland Opportunity map.

Key factors affecting the ranking include wind exposure and connectivity with existing woodland. No consideration is given to social factors, services or land ownership. Areas excluded from the ranking include built-up areas, inland rock or quarries, existing woodland and statutory protected sites (SSSI, SPA, SAC, local & national nature reserves).

Please use the map as a starting point. Many factors affecting the suitability and benefits of a site are not included in the mapping. The rankings are not suitable for estimating benefits or suitability for small areas of woodland creation under 1 Ha.

Map resolution = 100x100m cells.
