Map Information

Combined habitat opportunity map

What areas would we prioritise for the restoration of seminatural habitats in Cornwall?

The map displays strategic opportunity areas for woodland, wetland and lowland heath restoration and creation, prioritized on the basis of their potential benefits and suitability for habitat creation.

The opportunity areas correspond to an area of a similar size to existing woodland and heathland habitats, and about double the areas of existing wetland.

The map is unable to capture many benefits and factors influencing the suitability of small-scale habitat creation (under 1 hectare).

Opportunity types should not be thought of as entirely exclusive. For example, wetland opportunities may include wet woodland and wet heathland habitats. It is essential that any habitat creation is informed by site visit and an assessment of existing biodiversity.
