Map Information

Existing nature network with corridors

How might we improve the 'connectivity' and reduce the fragmentation of the most valued, areas and habitats of Cornwall?

The map shows:

  1. the most highly ranked areas of mainland Cornwall in terms of biodiversity and selected ecosystem services - corresponding to ~25% of the total land area;
  2. areas benefiting from statutory protection (SSSI, SPA, SAC, local & national nature reserves);
  3. proposed ‘corridors’ for linking-up these high value areas and improving their connectivity.

Corridors include areas of relatively low biodiversity and habitat value. The corridors are best considered as opportunity areas where habitat restoration or improvement could significantly improve connectivity.

The proposed corridor area corresponds to about 5% of the land area of mainland Cornwall.
